Help me give my students costumes to make our performance come to life while they are reading a decodable script based on their individual phonics skills!
We are doing a fairy tale unit in my multi-age classroom. My students love comparing and contrasting books while reading multiple versions of fairy tales. Students enjoy discussing the differences and similarities between the characters, settings, and the plot. Students are thinking deeply and critically while we read these stories. It’s valuable to start these discussions with early readers in an engaging and developmentally appropriate way. Students have been noticeably more engaged during read-aloud when we are reading multiple versions of the same story.
We will end our unit by having the Kindergartners act out the following stories: Goldilocks, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Hen, and 3 Billy Goats Gruff.
Students will be grouped by the phonics skills they are working on during reading small groups. They will read a decodable script based on the phonics skills they are working on. These costumes will add even more fun to our performance. We plan to perform for parents, administrators, their younger classmates, and other classes in the school.
These costumes will also be placed in the dramatic play area so all students can act out and retell the stories in their own words year round.
