My Project
Our goal with this project is to provide our students, both autistic and typical, with seating options in our classroom. About 15% of the population has sensory processing needs - and our classroom has a bit more than that - so these seating options (wiggle stools, floor seatbacks, beanbag chairs) help with floor work in partners or small groups. The other tools in the project pair with desks/traditional chairs to make sitting in such a structure friendlier for the neurodiverse student. And, quite frankly, every student in our class will want to explore these options to see if they like them too!
We are working hard to make learning fun and comfortable in our class.
We have students with pretty impactful sensory needs. By providing ease with choosing how you work, we will help our students be more focused on doing their learning tasks.
Having so many options will help normalize learning differences in our class. After all, we ALL want to use these tools - so why shouldn’t we get to have those experiences too?
