This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are part of a side by side dual language Spanish, second grade classrooms. They spend all day learning in a classroom in English and the next day, learning all day in Spanish in the neighbor classroom (mine).
They are a group of fifty-five students that are in my charge for the Spanish component of their instructional year.
They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures and love to learn. Their families and the students have made the commitment to be bilingual and bi-literate by the time they complete their elementary school career.
My Project
Since they will spend half the year in a Spanish classroom and the other half in the English classroom, my partner and I decided to color coordinate our classrooms and use folders to hold their work instead of asking for/purchasing double the amount of composition notebooks and minimize the carrying of materials everyday.
This is the first time my school will try this model.
My partner and I want our students for feel at home in both classrooms. We want to minimize the expenses on their families, coordinate our resources and minimize the students having to carry materials from one classroom to the other of their dual language worlds.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
