Students need a designated area to read, gather, and take part in classroom community activities. Our class does not have a rug for the students to sit comfortably together. Having a rug to enjoy and learn at is so important to all children, even the older ones. My students are in 4th grade and come from a small town in Utah. Many of them come from low-income homes and need to do most of their learning in the school environment. My students are all very unique individuals who desire to come together and be a classroom community. I love that my students are ready and willing to share ideas and opinions with each other. Having the classroom rug would give us a place to have these discussions together comfortably.
My Project
Students in my classroom will benefit greatly from having a designated place to sit, communicate, learn, and relax during the day. Having a classroom rug helps to enrich the classroom environment and make our classroom feel more like a home.
When a child can read comfortably on a rug, they can focus more on what they are reading and less on where they are.
Making our classroom more inviting with a large classroom rug can help to make students feel at home when they walk through our classroom door. I want my students to get the sense that this is a safe environment where they can learn, explore, and enjoy their time. Having a rug for students to sit on and work on would greatly improve our classroom atmosphere.
