Making Narcan Available to All Students and Staff

My Project

Opioid overdose deaths are at an all time high in the United States. In 2022, 107,941 deaths occurred due to opioid overdose. Opioid (Fentanyl) related deaths are the number one cause of death in the US in ages 18-45- more than heart attacks, cancer, or car wrecks.

Suspected overdose can be reversed with a drug called Narcan, or Naloxone.

Currently, I stock Narcan on every campus in our district in the Nurse's office.

However, brain death due to hypoxia related to opioid overdose can occur within minutes and we are a rural community and approximately 20 miles to the nearest hospital.

My goal is to stock Narcan in every classroom in our district and on every school bus. I have secured the Narcan and would like to supply containers to give each teacher and school bus driver to store the Narcan in. I already train every staff member yearly on signs and symptoms of opioid overdose and Narcan administration- I will continue to do this. I have also trained students and will continue to do so. I will also place Narcan in four of our AED containers that are accessible to the public during events taking place after school hours on our campuses.
