Making My Title I Library Current and More Diverse

My Project

I teach literacy at a Title I school in Oklahoma, and most of my students come to me without having much experience with or interest in independent reading. As we move through the year, they have daily independent reading time and one of my favorite things is finding an awesome book in the class library that gets a student who was an unenthusiastic reader excited about that first 10 minutes.

The graphic novels have been a great bridge to traditional novels for many of my students, and bringing in more diverse authors and characters will allow my students to see people who look like them as the protagonist in these stories.
