This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 7th and 8th grade social studies. I find that the white walls and harsh fluorescent lights of my room can make it very uncomfortable for nuerodivergent students.

Students are able to be more caring, kind, and engaged when they feel comfortable in the physical space of their classroom.

Therefore, I am asking for your help to make my classroom more comfortable for students. This will include

flexible seating for students, including a rug and beanbag chairs, for when they feel wiggly or need to be by themselves

lighting to turn off overhead lights which can be distressing, particularly for students on the spectrum
