Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Preschool is the place to be! Students within this community come from extreme poverty. They enter the classroom eager to learn and are introduced to new things throughout the year.
I work with a group of amazing, diverse students who soak up new information as they explore the tools in the classroom.
My preschool classroom is set up to be student-led and allow the students to work at their own pace.
As a result, students are able to develop at their level in a very low-stakes environment. The activities stimulate their interest while helping to make sense of the world around them. There is no greater place to be than a PreK classroom!
My Project
The students in Room 102 have been talking about seeds and different types of plants. As we continue to discuss the things we need to make plants grow, Mother's Day is approaching quickly. Each year, we plant flowers to give to moms which often make it home, but never planted. A lot of our kids live in apartment buildings or flats, and don't have an opportunity to watch their plant grow to its full potential.
This year, it would be amazing if kids can give their mothers a succulent that they can keep in doors for many years to come.
The students will also be able to create artful expressions on the pots that their parents can keep as a token of love. Finally, the students will use watercolor on the paper to create a card to give to their mother. At our school, the mothers provide great support for the students in the classroom. What a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude for the contributions that they have made throughout the year thus far. With your support, we can make this happen.
