Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kids are special! They live in a high poverty city in California. Many families share homes, and, because of safety issues, there are not many opportunities to go outside and play. They attend a Title I school where there is a free or reduced-price lunch and breakfast program that above 90% of the students use.
I teach 25 kindergarten students in this school.
Most of my students are experiencing their first public school classroom. The children are sweet, smart and enthusiastic. They love to come to school and learn!
My Project
Kindergarten students are enthusiastic about music and rhythm. I want to capitalize on their joy to use music to learn language arts and math standards. Counting the beats, using rhythm to hear rhyme, and begin to create their own original lyrics are some of the ways that music will be incorporated into our daily curriculum. These students listen to music and now they will be able to produce some of their own. There will be times that playing the instruments in performances will be an additional blessing for these students. Families feel much more connected when they can listen to and watch their children become performers with skills.
