Making Multiplication Masters: A Professional Development Odyssey
I need 8 copies of "Memorize in Minutes: The Times Table, Teaching Manual" in order to provide 8 teachers with the tools to teach multiplication facts in a fun and engaging way.
Students in my school are amazingly self motivated to learn. This independence is fostered by the Montessori curriculum that students experience in grades Pre K - 5! Students at my school have the rare and wonderful opportunity to be with the same teacher for several years (grades 1st through 3rd are taught by the same teacher).
I am purchasing an amazing resource for all the 1st through 3rd grade teachers to help them teach multiplication facts in an engaging way.
Multiplication can often feel rushed as a topic because it tends to be taught at the end of 3rd grade. However, this timing puts students at risk for not having their facts memorized and usable for 4th grade where the math they're exposed to is heavily reliant upon multiplication.
The book I am seeking to purchase engages students in stories for each fact and has consistent visual codes for each number 0-9. The book includes step by step lesson plans (a must-have for busy teachers), as well as all the pages that would need to be reproduced for the classroom ready to copy.
My Project
I will be giving a professional development on the book, "Memorize in Minutes: The Times Table, Teacher Manual" for 8 classroom teachers. This book takes a creative approach to times table memorization through stories.
This book will help reach students for whom memorization of facts is not enough for them to remember what they've learned.
This book helps guide teachers through step by step lessons around each fact and the stories connected to each fact. I intend to guide teachers through a classroom fact analysis (which facts are most students commonly missing) and use this book to focus on the facts with the most errors.
