We can remember every lyric to a song or recite quotes from movies easily. We can use that to make learning more engaging to students. They need a good small handheld video camera to record songs, skits, news reports, and dramatic recreations that they create for different academic content areas.
I have 23 Fourth Grade students in a Title I Virginia school.
Our students are considered high-risk, impoverished and lacking in a solid educational foundation when they come to us. They are eager to learn but need creative and engaging teachers to be successful.
My students will be able to do so much with a small handheld video camera that they can use. They will learn how to create, write, produce, perform, record, edit and make movies on their own. This kind of project-based learning technique is known to help students make deeper connections and long-term learning with academic content. We can use it for any curriculum area including Math, Science, Virginia Studies, and Language Arts. This video camera connects to our classroom computer and Promethean board to help us upload and edit videos we record to make a class movie, so technology is integrated, as well. The social and emotional benefits of using a video camera for student-led videos is far reaching. The self-confidence, self-worth and feelings of being valued and trusted to take this on will benefit them beyond the classroom. The relationship building between peers and the sense of creating something together will support the team community I try to instill in our environment.
Please help me make a dream come true for myself and the students!
They will remember this project and have the final product of the movies on disc forever. It will have such a great impact on all our lives.
