Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school have so little and I want to give them so much more. All of the students here come from homes below the poverty line, and I want them to have the chance to experience something that can influence their lives.

These students are so disadvantaged that many don't have access to technology at home.

I want them to be exposed to as much as possible so that they don't fall behind in their future educational pursuits. They come from broken homes, are living with an aunt or grandparent instead of mom and dad, and many even come from homeless shelters or abused family shelters. They have a very bleak outlook on what life has to offer them and need to know they can make a difference in their lives with the power of an education.

My Project

As a physical education teacher, my job is to educate my students in ALL aspects of sports and fitness. One of the ways I do that is to work with them on calculating BMI, looking at stats on professional sports players and creating "dream teams", and looking at how to improve their swings in baseball by using simple physics formulas. All of this is really part and parcel to the physical education curriculum in my classes, but it's incredibly difficult to work these things out on pencil and paper.

I want to help improve my students' quality of life through fitness.

In order to accomplish that, my students need access to a high quality computer that is capable of running software to assist them in making the calculations necessary for fitness class. A MacBook Pro is the perfect tool for doing just that. Not only will it help my students in fitness/statistical analysis, it will be put to use during the after school program where my some of my students work individually on their fitness plans. They will be able to track and monitor all kinds of important information as they learn to be their best selves both mentally and physically.
