My Students
They don't care what you know, until they know that you care." My classroom is an environment in which I have developed a family, and taught my students a caring mentality. I care for each child as if they were my own. My students work hard, and are expected to meet their end of year benchmarks. My students range from gifted to requiring early intervention services.
My school is a public elementary school, but we pride ourselves on such a quality education that we feel as though it is like our students are getting a "Private education for free." My students range from wealthy to receiving free school lunch.
My classroom has a range of diverse backgrounds, including students that are African American, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Caucasian. Our school is an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, so we incorporate numerous units of inquiry into our learning in addition to our standards being taught.
My Project
The ability for students to be able to count coins and bills is an essential skill they will require for life. This is a mathematical standard in which we work on each day within my classroom. Not only is it imperative for my students to learn these skills as part of their curriculum, it is pertinent for them to learn them for life!
These requested items will help bring the concept of money and adding and subtracting coins to life!
By both implementing the Touch Math Money System, as well as using the Grocery Store and Drug Store Money Math activity sets, the students will get the idea of what using money is like in real life. These systems will assist them with skills needed in every aspect of their adult lives. The Touch Money Worksheets, the Big Coin Activity Book, and the Big Coin set will all be used to teach the students the Touch Math System of counting coins. This is a new and innovative way of math money instruction.
Utilizing these resources, such as the Money Activity Set, will make teaching these standards fun for the children. We will be able to use them in small groups, centers, as well as with groups requiring remediation and after school tutorial as needed. This will give my young Second Graders a solid financial foundation in which to grow into mini-moguls!
