After seven years of working with young scholars, I've found that a few things hold true each year - kids want to learn, kids want to grow, and kids want to know they are loved.
The young learners in my classroom are eager to learn more about the world and the ways they can make their mark upon it.
For many of my students, sometimes it's hard to imagine what lies beyond the city limits of our rural town and the obstacles of the poverty they witness daily. However, these are students who are curious, who desire to know more and do more. They are original thinkers who are open to discovering their gifts in a creative educational setting.
Each year, my goal is to encourage, support, and guide them past these limitations and challenge them to aim towards the stars of their individual dreams and goals. And each year, my students and I are overjoyed by the progress and learning made, the positive relationships of support created, and the smiles fueled by moments of learning in our classroom.
By third grade, most students have developed basic financial literacy skills. They can identify different money values and perform simple adding and subtracting tasks. However, they don't receive a lot of opportunities to evolve these skills into real-world application.
By donating to this project, you will help provide an opportunity for my students to participate in next-level financial literacy activities.
The Exploring Money Financial Literacy Kit I am requesting features realistic coins and bills that will be used for recognizing denominations and role-playing real world transactions. The Power Pen and quiz cards will be used for individual practice and concept reinforcement. The board game will challenge my students to apply their money sense and practice making positive spending and saving habits. I hope you will join me in providing this valuable resource to my students.
