Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently teaching a 5th grade class of 22 students in the South Bronx. The school is a Title 1 school where over 90% of the students receive free lunch.
There is much to look forward to this school year. In order to provide our students with a well rounded academic, social, recreational and cultural experiences, our school is implementing several innovative programs. One program that my class will participate in is ballroom dancing. It is the same program that was documented in the movie MAD HOT BALLROOM. We will also participate in Project Boost, a program that develops students cultural awareness by going on trips to Broadway shows, museums, restaurants, art galleries, etc.
In order to document their experiences, I would like to have a digital camera and photo printer for the class. Students can share in the role of being the photographer or "memory maker" for the class. Photos will be displayed in a timely fashion on bulletin boards to inspire and motivate my students as well as their parents.
