This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Reading can be a complex skill for students to learn as they discover the relationship between letters and sounds and how the letters and sounds work together to make words. There are many benefits to teaching phonics to students as they are learning to read. A child who starts their reading journey with phonics tend to have excellent phonemic awareness, which is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate letter symbols with their appropriate sounds. Phonics allows children to develop their reading comprehension and also learn new words. With this, children can easily understand the overall meaning of words while they are reading. The magnetic materials I am requesting will provide opportunities for hands-on word-building for my reading intervention students.

According to Mary McCleod Bethune, "The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read." Please help me give my students this opportunity!
