This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The best way for students to learn math is to provide them with a real, hands-on approach.
My second grade students are highly motivated, hard working and have a positive attitude towards learning.
One of their favorite subjects is Math. Although many students can solve basic Math facts quickly many of them still struggle with problem solving techniques, counting money and recognizing the attributes of solid figures.
My Project
These resources will provide students with an opportunity to make math more meaningful. The magnetic money and money cubes will help students recognize coin combinations that equal a given value. The geometry kit will allow students to hold solid figures to determine the edges and corners. The students will gain a better understanding of Math concepts through exploration. Students learn best by seeing and touching real materials such as solid figures, dice and learning cubes . These math materials would be used in a variety of ways. I would use the resources to model the lesson. Students would have an opportunity to use the materials with a partner or small group to reinforce a skill.
