My students need an iPad and various other magnetic math manipulatives to make mathematics lessons come to life

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"It is not about the technology; it's about sharing knowledge and information, communicating efficiently, building learning communities and creating a culture of professionalism in schools. These are the key responsibilities of all educational leaders."
My students attend a K-6 public school, in an urban, low income area.
As a Title I school, all children receive free breakfast and lunch. Due to budget cuts, no new technology has been purchased. The one functioning computer we have is over 8 years old. However, despite the lack of resources and challenges my students face on a daily basis, they are an energetic and enthusiastic group. They come to school each day eager to learn new things and to apply the skills I have taught them. Please help us integrate technology into our mathematics curriculum!
My Project
Interactive technology and manipulatives can be a great asset in teaching math. When used effectively, technology tools can help engage students while addressing different learning modalities. With the use of programs such as Google Earth, Youtube, Brainpop, etc. students can make seemingly abstract mathematical concepts come to life, while at the same time learning how to use current technological devices. The materials I am requesting, which include an iPad, and various other hands on manipulatives such as magnetic coins, will allow students to make math concepts meaningful.
It is clear that technology motivates students to learn and to complete tasks that might bore them with pencil and paper.
Technology also offers a risk free learning environment for students to explore the world of mathematics. Not only does it encourage students to become active learners with a quest for knowledge, it also allows them to assume responsibility for their own learning - creating tech savvy, independent thinkers.
