Making Math Meaningful Through a Hands-On Approach

Help me give my students hands-on math tools such as mystery feely box, ten frame mats, and contraption plank sets to solidify crucial learning concepts.

My Students

My class is filled with unique personalities, strengths, and a variety of backgrounds. I have students who are extremely bright and are ready to be challenged. On the other hand, there are students who have only experienced a school setting for the first time, in my class. Because there is such a large spectrum of needs, it can be a challenge for me at times to meet all of their individual needs. My class this year has inspired me to do a better job of using outside resources to empower them to reach their full potential.

This class has done a fantastic job of challenging me to become a better educator.

We often times can get stuck in the monotony of our daily classroom routines and forget to embrace the love and joy of the learning progression. Getting to know some of the families that are attached to my students, I feel empathy toward some of the challenges my students are facing. They are just beginning their careers as students and are faced with socio-economic difficulties, instabilities at home, and a lack of exposure to the world around us. I am so thankful to be their teacher!

My Project

There are countless people I have encountered as adults that strongly dislike math. They may have had difficulty learning core mathematical concepts as a result of their own disinterest in the subject, frustration when they didn’t understand, lack of resources that provide engagement, and so forth. I am so excited that I get the opportunity to teach mathematical concepts to these young learners because I strive to break that negative cycle.

By providing my students with engaging mathematical materials, their learning experiences will be enhanced and solidified.

With the listed materials I will be able to provide lessons that engage my students in a deeper, hands-on, and more meaningful way. Say goodbye to worksheets and hello to tools that will help the math concepts stick!
