My second graders are full of energy and enthusiasm who work very hard to learn. The students find enjoyment and success with a flexible classroom model. They live in a urban area and face a variety difficulties that hinder their learning including high poverty, special learning needs, and language barriers which they work together to overcome. Many of my students are coming not being prepared for 2nd grade due to external factors. With your help we can create an environment in which they can succeed.
Even though my students struggle with academics, they are amazing and generous children that are finding joy in learning.
They learn best with hands on materials where they can work collaboratively sharing their thoughts and strategies with teammates. Through this collaboration they learn problem solving, turn taking, and cooperation. These skills are invaluable to their future.
The "Math in a Flash! Discovery Cans" will allow small groups to work together as they solve the task in cooperative groups. These creative cans allow students to practice 2nd grade skills with partners and groups which have already been taught.
These ready-to-use math cans are overflowing with hands-on activities providing targeted practice with a variety of key concepts!
In each can, students have 25 self-checking question cards, plus all the manipulatives to solve each problem. The students will simply grab a card and the corresponding manipulatives, then practice building balanced equations with number tiles, telling time on analog and digital clocks, using number lines to visualize fractions, order of operations and much more!
Your support of this project will not only reach the students in my room but all the 2nd grade classes this year and all the students in years to come in the future.
