This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are elementary school students at a Title I School in Florida. Over 65% of the students at the school are students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. Being a Title I school means that we sometimes don't receive enough funding to get the best resources. A third of my students fall in the lower percentile of our school and struggle with both reading and math. I also have some higher students who can benefit from enrichment. Lastly, I have some students who are on level who often require a little review.
My students are champions in the classroom, and they will go on to change the world around them.
They are always eager to learn, and they work hard to grasp concepts. In my class a champion is one who comes to school on time and works hard and gives their best effort each and every day. They are respectful and friendly and treat each other as family!
My Project
These materials will help make math meaningful for my students. It will help me to teach my students why and how math works. Students will use the Ten-Frame Activity Dice to build their number sense. The Hands-On Operations Kits (Multiplication, Divison, and Addition) will give students a concrete way to understand these different operations and why they work. Overall, all of the items in this project will help students to build an understanding of math's core concepts. It will allow students the opportunity to learn math using a hands-on approach. My students love to learn with hands-on manipulatives. However, learning to cooperate and work together takes time.
This project will help my students grow to become 21st-century learners who are tolerant and respectful of others.
Making math meaningful and fun for kids is a great priority for me. Using the resources in this kit, I am sure my students will become better mathematicians. It will help them to build their understanding of math and help them grow as math students. It is important for students and adults to learn tolerance. Having these resources will also help my students learn to work as a team, and grow to be good citizens.
