My Students

My 7th grade math students are enthusiastic and eager to learn, especially They range in academic level from struggling to accelerated, some have very special and specific learning needs, and some are even learning English for the first time. Real-world examples and demonstrations of useful math will improve mathematical literacy as well as a student's self-esteem and development of growth mindset.

I try to offer a variety of learning experiences as well as a supportive student-centered environment.

They are always excited about new ways to learn math and take it to the next level, so I want to continue to help them thrive!

My Project

This request is for a one-year subscription to Scholastic Math Magazine. Math Magazine will fit into the classroom culture naturally due to the design and visual appeal while allowing extra-curricular activities. It will increase my student's engagement with current topics by providing them with current events and stories involving math that they can actually relate to. Whether its using skateboard ramps to explain slope, animal spy cameras to create expressions and equations, or graffiti art to explain ratios and proportions, each edition using engaging topics, famous people, animals, and art to introduce and promote deep mathematical conversations and discourse.

This project is important to me because it show my students that math is all around them!

Each article comes with math problems that align with our National and State math standards for 6-8 grade. I can also use the additional online resources to integrate each issue into my lessons to enhance learning through station work, problem based learning, and the use of technology. Scholastic Math will open the doors for more in-depth project based learning opportunities for my students. My goal is to have students thinking about math in everyday life and in unusual circumstances so that they can relate to what we are learning in class.
