My Students
I have the privilege of teaching a Special Education class of 11 students. My students have different abilities such as autism, speech-language impairment, intellectual disabilities, and other health impairments. They are outstanding students who love to learn and discover the world.
COVID-19 has been very hard on my students because the routine they depend on has not been present.
My students learn best in person with many repetitions to master a skill. The constantly changing landscape of COVID-19 has left them somewhat bewildered. They may be attending school in person one week, and then they may receive instruction remotely during another week. Many of my students are medically fragile, and keeping them safe is a priority. Despite the uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, the students in my class love to learn and are very enthusiastic about the new skills they acquire
My Project
The Touch Math program will help give my students a hands-on understanding of math. The skills taught in Touch Math can be easily transferred to different settings. Whether we are learning in person or learning remotely due to COVID-19 issues, the skills taught in this program will be accessible to the students. They will be able to use these skills in any setting.
The skills taught in the Touch Math program will help increase my student's understanding and application of math skills.
The skills are a foundation on which they can continue to build.
