Students in the low socioeconomic circumstances I work with more often than not come to school without having eaten dinner the night before or breakfast the morning of. Therefore, basic school supplies are very low on their lists of things to have with them each day.
The children I work with often come in with no sleep the night before and empty bellies.
I have been with this school for 4 years now, and it doesn't get any easier. Each year, I try and provide the students the basic needs to be successful in the classroom, but each year it becomes more expensive to do! To these children, something as simple as a new pencil and an eraser, seems like a special prize! Many times the children are left in charge of themselves or even younger siblings, and school supplies are the least of their worries each day! This is where you can come in and alleviate some of these worries for my students!
My Project
I am requesting several basic supplies that my students need to be successful in the classroom. Such basic items such as pencil, paper, erasers, even expo markers to work things out on their individual marker boards. All of these tools are essential in a student's educational experience. By supplying these resources for my students, you will be allowing them to focus their thoughts and energy on performing in the classroom, rather than begging other classmates for materials. Even as a fourth grader, it is humiliating to those who come in weekly and have to ask to borrow supplies either from a classmate or myself. Your generous donation can eliminate that embarrassment and give them one less worry!
Children this age should be eager to learn!
If we allow them to be weighed down by the responsibility of supplying materials they have no way of obtaining on their own, it truly begins to leave a bad taste in their mouths concerning education in general. They would rather be a behavior problem then admit they don't have the proper materials! Your gift will impact at least 30 students this year, as well as any neighboring classrooms in need of supplies that I can help with these items.
