My Students

6th grade science is usually my students' first regular Science class they experience on a daily basis. Students come to my classes with limited Science background and experience. From the beginning of the school year to the very end I am able to observe the excitement of learning and exploring of Science concepts and knowledge.

This is an integrated (physical, biological and Earth Sciences) class where learning is student-centered, as per NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) to meet 21st Century Learning.

Ecology is introduced to students as they learn about abiotic and biotic factors. Students will review major organ systems as they learn about how living things are organized. The students will learn about earth science, the water cycle, and the rock cycle. Finally, the students will learn about climate and how weather patterns are formed.

My Project

Help me give my students the opportunity to use the prisms, double convex lenses and laser pointers to do the following: Using "Light" as the theme delves our young scientific minds into how we "see", and how our eyes work and how our brains process visual stimuli. Students will use their intriguing minds to investigate and gain a deeper understanding on how their sight is not a stand-alone system to make visual processing work.

6th grade science is the first time our students are receiving their first, every day, experience with science.

Our dedicated 6th grade team of teachers wants our students to investigate real-life and natural phenomena that is pertinent to them and meets NGSS framework. 6th grade science is the perfect time to hook our students into becoming future STEAM leaders!
