Our school is located in a suburb in Northern California. We are a smaller elementary schools, with only about 450 students. My students are eager to learn and eager to teach each other new things. My classroom is full of inquisitive 3rd graders, who come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Their curiosity leads to many questions, which leads to opportunities to research the answers.
Finding the answers makes asking the questions more fun!
They enjoy learning hands-on and listening to and telling stories. They love reading, too. They are helpful to each other and love to share, which each other and their families.
These students come from many different backgrounds. Many are bilingual, some were born in other countries, some are first generations Americans. Some of their parents have also attended this school as children! Families and Staff know each other and take care of each other. It is a very special place.
My Project
Reading a variety of books is important for children. Even though there are a few online programs that allow students to read books online, I feel that holding a book is so important.
Reading is a much better experience when a child can hold a book in his or her hands.
Children learn to appreciate a book that they can hold in their hands, much more. Currently, we have mismatched, broken bookcases in our classroom. They take up a lot of room and do not store very many books. By purchasing bookcases meant for classrooms, my students will not only have more room, but they will have more variety of books to read. I will be able to put take many books out of storage and put them in my students hands.
