My Students

Eager, excited, curious, and creative...those are some of the many words that can be used to describe my students. Just like dolphins that are our school mascot, we love to learn new things. Our school is located in the bustling center of Honolulu. The students come from diverse cultures and learn in a variety of ways. We are a Title I school with a large EL population.

I want my students to be scholars, scientists, artists, mathematicians, but most of all successful leaners!

The pandemic has changed so many things for our children, but they have shown that they are resilient and willing to adapt to the challenges and changes to their learning and environment.

My Project

This year as my students return to the classroom, I want them to be able to have meaningful learning opportunities. Often times during distance learning, students did not have the right materials (math manipulative kits, STEM resources) they needed to learn or chances to participate in hands on, problem solving activities.

My students learn best when they are given resources that provide them with authentic, hands on lessons that are fun and engaging.

The math manipulatives (base-10 blocks and cubes) will be put into individual kits for the students to use to explore and problem solve during math lessons. The manipulative kits will help the students gain a better understanding of place value, multi-digit addition and subtraction through the use of the base-10 blocks and the cubes will be used for learning about multiplication, division, and area. The STEM kits will give the students opportunities to investigate real world problems and also make connections to literature. The incentives will be used as part of our classroom economy. The students will earn classroom dollars for exhibiting our core values of being respectful, responsible, caring, and kind and also hard work. Their dollars can be redeemed for the incentives found in our class store. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards will be used to find fun and engaging lessons for the students.
