Making Learning Fun

Help me give my students the chance at a deeper understanding of new material. Regularly as a class, we play games to connect with what we have learned. Having fun in the classroom is so important while learning!

My Students

I teach 5th grade English Language Learners. I love the population I work with. It brings me such joy to see their language acquisition throughout the school year. My students work on 4 key domains of learning, reading, writing, listening, and speaking during their time in the EL program. To help facilitate better learning opportunities and more intentional language acquisition I try to provide an environment where they can have fun learning, take chances, and see themselves progressing with the English language. I love using manipulatives to facilitate a deeper understanding of the language and to help them gain confidence in their general education classrooms. In my classroom, we support each other's achievements and are proud of the smaller milestones when they happen. We have fun while learning and build a sort of family along the way.

My Project

My students love to learn, and I love to see lightbulbs go off. I love to reward their new knowledge by playing quiz games that assess their retention of a new subject. It lets me know what they understood and what I might need to go back and review.

Learning must be fun for students or they will not have a deep understanding of the material.

Utilizing game days that are not only fun, but that engage the children in their learning, to me, has proven that my students understand the material exponentially better than when I lecture and ask simple leading questions to gauge understanding.

With the addition of the answer buzzers, I will easily be able to break my students into groups based on performance, language acquisition level, skill level, etc. and we will be able to have fun while we are learning.
