My Students

I have the privilege of working as my school's Science/STEM teacher. I teach all students from Grades K through 5th Grade. The majority of these students come from low-income households and the only place that they are being exposed to these types of Science/STEM projects and experiments is in school.

My students walk into my classroom for the day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.

I am my school's STEM teacher. Students come to me for about 45-50 minutes a day (maybe once or twice a week). I absolutely love seeing my students' faces light up when they walk into the room - thrilled and eager to learn/explore. They know they have a safe environment to explore and try new things.

I love when students stop me in the hallway to ask "What are we doing next class?" or "I came up with another way to do that experiment." or "I showed my mom how we did our experiment at home!" or when they bring in their own designs that they made at home. They are beaming with pride and it makes me so proud!

My Project

Dash & Dot robots are hands-on learning tools that teach creativity, problem-solving, and coding to children in grades K-5. Children can see their code come to life in a real-world, hands-on way that engages them fully in the concepts they are learning about. As robotics and computers become increasingly prevalent in students’ lives, understanding programming concepts are becoming very important for students’ success. Students will work in small groups to develop their collaboration and communication abilities as they learn valuable 21st-century skills. Help our students get introduced to STEM early and cultivate their skills for the opportunities of today’s world.

When I saw these robots at my professional training I knew my students would love them.

Dash and Dot are perfect for elementary age students because the robots act like a little pet. They want attention and to play. Students will learn to code the robots so they can interact with them and make them move around the room, play soccer, play the xylophone, or shoot a catapult just to name a few tasks. Since these robots are user-friendly, the kids will be excited to work with them. They make coding fun and easy and can give children strong problem-solving skills in the future.

Having access to technology helps to level the playing field for my students. They will be confident learners in the world -- ready to dream big! It is my goal for my students to discover a whole new world of learning, play, and adventure through coding these Dash and Dot Robots. Access to this technology will inspire them to do great things and will encourage them to want to seek a career in a field such as Science, Engineering, Technology or Mathematics. Their futures will be brighter as a result of this project being funded.
