This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are caring, hard working, and enjoy the little things. We work together everyday to learn new things, and not just the new lessons for the day. We learn what makes a great friend, how to tie a shoe, what sound a caribou makes, about each other, and more. Everyday gives us the opportunity to learn something great through thinking critically and uniquely.

Not only are my students thinking critically by answering the "why, how do you know, or explain what you mean" type questions, but they have begun digging deeper by asking these questions about the books we read, to me, and to each other.

These kids come from so many different backgrounds and life experiences, and the stories they share only add to our daily learning.

My students are so diverse; Some are from low income households, some are learning English as a second language, some have learning challenges, some are outgoing, some are quiet, but we all form one classroom family. I strive to build a sense of community in the classroom so that all of my students are cared for and know they have a friend or adult close by who is there for them.

My Project

My students work in small groups all day long. These groups range from 3-4 students each and change depending on the subject. While working in these groups, my students rotate through several different learning centers: small group (with me), small group (working together with monitoring and assistance by the instructional coach), independent, computers, library, and writing. Each of these centers are tailored to meet the needs of each of my students. I differentiate my instruction and each activity so that students are met at their level.

By donating to this project, you will help provide instant learning centers to target math and phonics skills that will be used to boost my students' success and understanding in these areas.

Each instant learning center provides my students with everything they will need to master skills such as blending sounds for reading and understanding place value to explain how double digit addition/subtraction works. Not only will these materials be used during center rotations, but they will also be used as a great tool for reteaching and practicing skills that may be a struggle for some students.

I believe having a concrete understanding of the fundamentals of phonics and mathematical concepts will benefit my students for years to come. When students understand the why and how to reading and math, they lose the anxiety of getting something wrong and gain the confidence to keep trying until they get it right! These instant learning centers include many of the fundamental skills my students need; vowel sounds, decoding, prefixes/suffixes, geometry, addition/subtraction, measurement, and more. Your donation to this project will provide a new resource and avenue for students to learn through.
