My Project
My classroom is a special education classroom with students who have autism. We do work based on IEP goals. The students work best with hands on activities. They love to explore objects while learning. These hands-on classroom activities' will help them make progress on their IEP goals. All my students have a goal that involves learning to count and learning their letters or letter sounds. The Nuts about counting will be great for them to practice their counting. The magnetic letters and CVC pictures will help them learn their letter sounds and start practicing the letter sounds in short words.
My students need additional classroom support to care for their sensory needs.
With additional sensory support, my students will be able to feel comfortable in their environment. They will be able to concentrate on learning new things and improving their abilities. The weighted vest and vibrating neck pillow are great sensory tools to help students calm down when they are upset or overstimulated. The noise canceling headphones will help students when the environment is too loud and overwhelming. The swing chair will help them get vestibular input to help meet their sensory needs. We have had a similar swing in the classroom that recently broke after several years, and it is a favorite activity for them! The tent and saucer chairs will be a great place for them to take a break and have a calming spot when needed.
