Making Learning Fun and Engaging Through Activities

My Project

The students that I work with on a daily basis come from a lower-income area and we are a Title I school. These students don't have the opportunities like other children to have different ways to learn their math and literacy skills. By providing them the opportunity to be exposed to a different way of learning that can be used both in the classroom and at home will help to benefit their learning because parents can also incorporate this at home and make it a fun way to have a family activity and can be found at home.

The goal of this project is to expose first graders have a fun and exciting way of practicing and learning their literacy and especially their math skills by using any child's favorite thing "food" and other materials to show what they are learning.

They will be practicing their skills while using food and the best part is that they will get to eat it when they finish. They will also be creating a ornament that contains their height for how tall they are. They will work together to create the length of the ribbon and practice their measurement skills. Using the food will help them to practice their doubles, place value, and sorting skills for math. They will also use the cookies to remember the "oy" and "or" sounds in phonics. We will also be using these items for their 100th day of school to make it more memorable. It will help them to practice their counting to 100 by 10s.

By making their learning experience hands-on while learning the different skills will make it that much more fun. They can use their experience at school to practice it at home with their families.
