My students are three to eight-year old students from a Title I school in Washington, DC. They are very motivated and engaged students who love to learn, play, and explore their environment. My students sometimes learn differently from their peers in some ways. Many students are auditory and tactile learners and some require specialized seating and fidgets to help them focus during learning time. They are super motivated, friendly, and active children who love to read, play, and engage with others.
My Project
My students learn best when their sensory needs and are met and they have ample opportunity to exercise their muscles. Materials like Theraputty, exercise balls, and fidgets are essential to getting their bodies and minds ready for learning and sustaining focus on academic tasks.
Students in my class begin each school day engaging in gross motor activities and fine motor strengthening exercises.
The exercise balls, fitness dice, and reaction balls will help engage students in gross motor skills. Theraputty play will help students build fine motor muscles necessary for extended writing sessions. These materials will also keep student engagement high.
