My Students

Middle school students are a different breed! They are bright, funny, inspiring, emotional, intense, energetic, and extremely talented. In the midst of discovering who they will become as they continue to grow, they are learning and developing new skills and talents. As their teacher, it is my job to love, support, and encourage them as they navigate through this crazy world called "Middle School."

My students are an amazing group of kids from all over the world - literally!

As an ESOL teacher, I work with students whose second language is English. Many come to me shy, a little scared and nervous, yet eager to learn. At times, they speak little to no English and are placed into classrooms where only English is spoken. Imagine how difficult that would be!

Even with these challenges, they are strong young men and women who realize the value and importance of a strong education. They work harder, study longer, and push themselves to be the best they can be. As hard as middle school already is for kids this age, my students embrace it. They celebrate their differences and the success of one another. They are an inspiration to me!

My Project

Last year, learning took place behind a computer screen or plexiglass. Students adapted to being separated from their peers and having to stay in a desk for most of the day. With the new school year here, teachers have been given a little more flexibility for classroom seating and this project for cushions and lap desks will get my middle schoolers excited to move around again!

Research shows that students are more likely to learn when they are in a comfortable environment.

Since my classroom and class sizes are small, I can provide students with these seat pillows and lap desks for those who might prefer to get more "comfortable" while they learn and collaborate. In 15 years of teaching, I have come to enjoy the sight of kids seated all around the classroom in traditional and non-traditional ways. I am amazed at how many times a day I am asked, "Can I move to the floor?" I would love to say, "YES! Grab a cushion and a lap desk and get comfortable!"

Even middle schoolers aren't too cool for a fun cushion and lap desk! My students would love these additions to our classroom and as a teacher, I would love to see them happy, comfortable, engaged and learning!
