I am a school counselor intern at a Middle School. The students are bright and are eager to help one another. One way that we do that is through Kindness Club. The purpose of Kindness Club is to teach empathy, kindness, and friendship. We have a little less than 100 students currently involved in this club, and it is growing every year!
We have a diverse student body, and each student comes with different talents, abilities, struggles, and hardships.
As a result of this we teach and help students in a variety of different ways. Many come from low SES backgrounds, speak English as their second language, and come from a wide variety of home lives.
What I love about the students is how different they all are. Most of them are so happy to come to school and see there friends. Some are intimidated coming to Middle School for the first time and changing classes several times a day can be stressful. They are eager to learn and I am excited to see the difference that kindness a school culture can make in their lives.
My Project
As a school counselor my job is to make the school safe, happy, and fun for everyone. One way that we accomplish that at my Middle School is through the Kindness Club! Kindness Club's mission is to make the school a safe place for everyone through creating a community of kindness. We do this through projects, community service, and lessons.
Your donations will allow us to complete projects with students that fosters kindness in our school.
Some of these projects involve giving students kindness coins when seeing doing a good deed that they can redeem for a prize. Also, it includes the kindness cards that we pass out all over the school to remind students of kindness. We need new curriculum for our kindness club and your donation will provide that through the building empathy curriculum. In addition, your donations will allow me to have incentives and rewards to give to students whose grades and attendance have improved throughout the course of the school year. For example, our school allows us to give out Rice Krispie treats, small toys (bouncy balls, nail polish, stick hands, ect.), chips, and other small fun items as incentives. Finally, your donations will help make my office a more warm and inviting space where students feel comfortable discussing their problems. The fidget toys will allow students with something to play with as they discuss what is going on in their life, and other items will help keep my office clean and welcoming.
