Making It Happen!

My Students

Some things just never change! I remember being in my primary grades and my teachers made wonderful centers for me to explore in! I want to give my students the same valuable experience! I want to foster independence while students engage in meaningful and individualized experiences.

My students are busy, inquisitive little people!

While most come very prepared for kindergarten, many do not. They all need a variety of experiences to achieve academic success. Some need to be challenged with sentence fluency, addition and subtraction as others need to learn how to write their name. The goal is to help all children make significant gains throughout the year while meeting the standards and keeping them challenged. All of them need hands on learning along with opportunities to work with other students to create, collaborate, communicate, and use critical thinking. Through learning centers, the teacher is able to differentiate activities so that everyone gets what he or she needs and the same activity can be adapted for all learners and their abilities. Learning centers are nothing new because they are so effective in creating an environment for children to explore and grow.

My Project

We need a printer, cardstock, lamination, paper cutter and binder rings, to prepare and create creative,differentiated learning centers! The materials that are being requested are to enable me (the teacher!) to produce differentiated centers throughout our room. I have hundreds of dollars worth of digital materials from the TeachersPayTeachers website and from teacher bloggers. These resources need to printed, cut, and laminated to enable our students to go nuts with learning! The printer, cardstock, lamination and other materials will enable me to produce wonderful resources for our students! Popcorn word games, math fluency games, and reading fluency activities are some the experiences stuck in my computer waiting to be made! Students can use manipulatives like play doh to form letters and numbers on laminated templates. Toy cars can be used roll under a picture of a cat while the student sounds out /c/ /a/ /t/. Children can look at pictures of famous buildings and reconstruct them with blocks or Legos. Addition, subtraction, and reading fluency cards are perfect centers for our kindergarteners. The possibilities are endless!

Students will collaborate, communicate, create and use critical thinking skills with colorful, long lasting materials. Kindergarten students spend a lot of time in learning centers. Let’s make them meaningful, let’s make it happen!
