Making It Click With Clixo: Part 2

Help me give my students a new innovative building toy that will help unleash their imagination and creativity.

My Students

Our early childhood school is now in its thirteenth year serving the community. In our pre-k class, that means over one hundred and eighty students have come and gone from this classroom. Along with that, many other students have called our room home for enrichment classes, after school programs, and summer camp.

Families send their precious children to our class every day, for us to help them take those first steps towards accomplishing great feats.

Our families are working-class parents who often work long hours to provide for their children.

There is nothing more rewarding for a teacher than being able to connect with the students and the families they serve on an emotional level. I am very fortunate to be able to teach in the very same community I grew up in.

I see a lot of my younger self in my students and see the similarities between my own parents and their parents. The stories, experiences, culture, food, and beliefs our families share have a lot in common with my own family. While a lot of the similarities we share are beautiful, others need to change.

My Project

The unique building tools requested will help our students build beyond the blocks. With new approaches to building, our pre-kindergarten builders will view building from a new perspective as opposed to the standard block building.

Creative thinkers who create innovative inventions think differently.

With a new way to build and new resources to explore, this project will allow my students to think outside of the block. I have requested a new and innovative building toy called Clixo so my students can explore various ways to construct structures of their imagination. The magnetic and flexible building set will allow our students to experience materials they have never worked with before.

The Clixo sets I am requesting will go directly to the homes of our students. Since our families have chosen remote learning this year, they will all be at home. The biggest issue with remote learning is always going to be the access to resources our children have at home. By giving all families access to the same materials, the playing field will be leveled.

My goal as an educator isn't to give my students answers. Instead, it's to guide them as they look for different ways to find various solutions. I wish to create divergent thinkers who are able to adapt to a changing environment and are versatile when they are faced with challenges. Toys won't directly lead to this, but provide various opportunities to think differently.
