Making Indoor Recess Educational

My students need a variety of educational games such as Uno, Skipbo, Sequence for kids, Sequence Numbers, Brain Builders STEAM: Science and Nature, Scrabble Jr and a Goobi Construction Set for indoor recess on rainy days.

My Students

My students walk into the classroom every day ready to learn and participate in all of the daily activities. I teach at a Title I school in NC, where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch every day.

We also have close to 90 students who bring backpack food home with them on the weekends.

Many of the students also rely on the community food bank for the meals they don't receive when they are not in school.

My Project

In elementary school, students are given recess every day. They love to go outside and use playground equipment, or use their imagination to make up a game outside. But what happens when it rains? When we have rainy or snowy days, we have to have indoor recess, and our options for indoor play are very limited. I am trying to build up the options for my students by giving them games that are also educational. We need a variety of educational games such as, Uno, Skipbo, Sequence for kids, Sequence Numbers, Brain Builders STEAM: Science and Nature, Scrabble Jr and a Goobi Construction Set for indoor recess on rainy days.

I know that the majority of the students that I work with don't have games at home, or don't have family game nights.

Some of them may never play games at all. I would like to teach them how to learn and have fun at the same time!
