This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach wonderful, bilingual first graders in an immersion class. Like everyone else, they enjoy getting gifts, but giving them is even better. That's why, in addition to giving each child a small gift on the holidays, I love to give them opportunity to make their own gifts to give to family members.
They take so much pride and joy in designing and creating their very own treasures to give to their families.
For some it is the only gift that they are able to give to a family member.
This year, I'm asking you to partner with me in giving them snowflakes that they can decorate with their school photos, handmade peppermint-scented playdough, shrinkydinks that will showcase mini-versions of their very best writing, and much more.
Our Social Studies Standards require me to teach national holidays. I like to incorporate other learning goals as I do that in the most memorable, engaging way possible. For example, students will work through the writing process to "publish" an essay-turned-keepsake on the shrinkydink for Mother's Day.
