My Students
"A home without books is like a room without windows." quote by Horace Mann. This statement sums up how vital books are to enrich our lives with knowledge. My students are in great need of history books for our unit of study on the Great Depression.
My students are eager to learn about the world around them.
They understand that it is critical to learn about the past to gain continuity with their present world. We are studying about the life and times of people from the Great Depression Era. This will lead us into our study of economics. My fourth graders need history books on their reading level to accomplish this task.
My Project
My students will collaborate in teams to delve into the history books and research the Great Depression. They will record their findings on data organizers and share the information with other classmates. This information gathered will lead us into a unit on economy. Knowing about the history of the Great Depression will provide better understanding as to where we need to go in the future economically.
The books I have selected are full of valuable information on the Great Depression.
They are on various levels for this age group and would provide access to the information for all ability groups. This is an excellent way for all students to be able to participate and learn about an important part of American history.
