Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
From kindergarten to fifth grade, my students' ages and capabilities vary as they have mild to moderate autism or similar disabilities. My students are eager to learn, love to express themselves, and are very energetic!
My students' excitement for life is contagious and they explore the world around them with never-ending curiosity and enthusiasm.
I teach at a Title I school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. More than half of our students live below the poverty line, and we service many military families. We also support many migrant families and English language learners. Every one of our students is a unique individual that deserves an environment where they feel safe and comfortable to ask questions and explore the world.
My Project
The equipment in this project will enhance the active and healthy classroom that I strive to create. Our Special Education classroom has a fluid schedule, required to meet the needs of my students as they change throughout the day. My students may also be a part of my class for anywhere from one to six years. All of the materials in this project have been chosen with the engagement and continued growth of my students in mind.
The items in this project will provide countless opportunities for my students to engage with their peers, practice turn-taking, strengthen gross-motor skills, and support an active and healthy lifestyle.
Having access to sports/play equipment will allow my students to be active when they need it the most. Especially the occasions when student needs may limit access to scheduled/structured breaks or activities. The materials in this project will support the health and wellness of my current and future students for years to come!
