This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The children I teach are trying to earn their high school diploma. Some have been in 3-8 different schools, are homeless, have babies of their own, or have other circumstances that have landed them at F. T. Academy. These children need a special kind of love and attention. One student I work with just needed a pair of pants to wear to a job interview. Most of these children are in an online credit recovery program but have no technology to use after school. Some Chromebooks could help these children reach​ the goal of graduation.

My Project

The children who attend F. T. Academy are there for one reason, to graduate. Almost all of them are required to complete online courses at school or at home. This is the last chance for some of the children who are aging out of the system and/or may have children of their own. On days they can’t make it to school, they need a way to continue their online lessons. These students may have a cell phone, but most do not. If we could check out a Chromebook to students so they could work from home or from the closest place that has free WiFi, they would be one lesson closer to graduation. For students at F. T. Academy, having the option to check out a Chromebook to take home could help change their life.
