Walk into my classroom and you will see 20 energetic, awesome kinders, all eager to learn. My are over-achievers! They love challenging themselves when we are learning something new. For some of them, school is a safe haven where they can thrive and be themselves.
My kinders are the best!
It is my first year teaching and their first year in school! Our school is a low-income school where resources for workstations are not provided. That doesn't stop them from wanting to learn! Every day is a joy with them! Math is one of their favorite subjects. They can't wait to come back from lunch and find out what we are going to learn that day.
My Project
Students are able to retain information taught and reinforced in small group much easier than whole group. My kinders will be using these items during math workstations, which are conducted with 3-5 students in a group. The hot-dots will help them with counting and addition. The fine motor jars will help the with sorting and strengthening their fine motor skills. They will be able to create shapes on the geoboards and strengthen again strengthen their fine motor skills. The abacus will help them with counting and grouping.
This project will improve my classroom by giving me new ways to help my students learn.
Working with these items will improve their math fluency and gives them a chance to explore through games, and having fun, while still achieving mastery. It gives them more options for math workstations, which in turn will give students more one-on-one attention when needed.
