Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 18 pre kindergartners who are very energetic. My 4-5 year olds are very curious and one of the most creative classes I have had. For some of my children, this is their first time in a school building. It is also the first time they are socializing with children their own age due to the pandemic. They are so excited to learn new things every day!

My children love to play outdoors and when they can't, they love to explore books, creative play and build tall structures whether it be from blocks or other building toys.

Each day these little ones come to school ready to meet their friends and give a welcome hug to whoever enters our room.

My Project

This week as we played on the playground, some of my class ran around and some played on the playground equipment. Still others just sort of walked around since they are not always interested in the playground equipment. I asked them what was wrong, why were they just walking around? One of my boys said, "I wish we could play basketball".

I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be great if I could get them a basketball hoop that is just their size?"

I know they would love to play basketball like their bigger friends. I also know that a basketball hoop would promote much needed exercise as well as helping to develop their social skills.

With your help we can give them a real basketball hoop and basketballs to play with when outside. Who knows? Maybe the next NBA or WNBA All Star is right in front of us!
