My Students

I work with students with autism and emotional/behavioral difficulties. This is the first year of this program at my school so I have nothing to start making the room a safe place. These kids need a social skills room that has flexible seating. It needs to be warm and welcoming. I would like be for some bean bags or comfy chairs to create a seating area that is warm and welcoming. Comfort is key to get them to open up to each other.

These students are amazing kids but need to figure out how to immerse themselves in high school.

We problem solve and create ideas together.

My Project

My students and I go through various scenarios and how to conduct ourselves in social settings We have group discussions and well as one-on-one talks. We problem-solve on what we can do better. To achieve more comfortable and open space I will need different seating than what I have. I will move tables, but need seating to create discussion area.

A new carpet, bean bag chairs, and a new carpet will give the students a place to sit and talk and practice the skills they are learning with each other.

The comfy, round living area will be where we sit and go over social situations together as a group. They are a support group to each other and they have a lot to offer for friendship.
