Help me give my students materials such as scissors, glues and construction paper to make creative art work, dry erase board, markers and erasers to practice their spelling, writing and math skills.
Many schools and public spaces were closed in order to contain and prevent the spread of the coronavirus. As a result, schools turned to distance learning to continue teaching. By doing so, my students have had to go from working in a small to 1:1 instruction setting to working at home, participating in 15 minutes of live session a day at home while trying to complete instruction work with help of their parents. Currently, the school district have provided chrome books for all students in the classroom but this is not enough to meet the needs of my students.
My Project
Every day, my students participate in live sessions for 15 minutes. During this session, we address reading and math skills. Furthermore, work packets are assigned to be completed at home. However, students are not able to complete all aspects of their work packets. With the scissors and glue, students will be able to cut and paste their work and use their color pencils to complete colored activities. They will also be able to cut and paste art projects that will be made using construction paper templates and use the googly eyes to show expressions when appropriate. The dry erase boards and erasers will allow parents to work with their child to practice handwriting skills and practice writing their sight words. Lastly, inclusion was an important part of their routine. Every week, reading buddies would come in to read to them but because they are not able to do so at this time, parents will have to take on additional role as a reading buddy by reading Pete the Cat Take-Along storybook set. They absolutely love Pete The Cat stories and this will help them to be motivated to sit and listen attentively. In order to sort the materials together, Zip Lock bags will come in handy to put all the materials together and the canvas bag to distribute the items to all students. I hope that these materials will allow students to complete the work as intended and allowing them to feel as if they were working in the classroom. I truly cannot wait to see their expression when they see me with all the goodies in their bag!
