My Project
My students enjoy coming to school. They are imaginative, creative, and curious learners. Many of my students have autism. They participate in counseling services to support the development of their social and emotion regulation skills.
Research has shown that puppets can be a powerful tool to help children with autism improve their social engagement.
The puppets in this project have been specially selected to reinforce strategies that the students are working on. I know that the animal puppets will make practicing coping skills such as bunny, snake, and bear breathing so much fun! The turtle will complement the "tuck like a turtle" anger management strategy. Additionally, we will be launching an emotion regulation unit with a special read aloud - The Color Monster. With the supplies in this project, students will have the opportunity to create their own "color monster" puppets which will help students identify their emotions and promote positive self-expression.
