Help me give my students two classroom wall cubbies. Many of our students are non verbal and are learning to communicate. These cubbies will help staff prompt students to request the desired toy in an appropriate manner.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project is pretty amazing, it makes communication come alive. I love this project because it is as easy change to our classroom set up with big benefits. Students will use this resource to learn how to request desired items in an appropriate manner. Currently I have all our learning materials locked up in closed cabinets to reduce behaviors. Our classroom teaches the most severe students in our school system (big behaviors/non verbal). So currently materials are out of sight to reduce negative attention seeking behaviors. The requested items puts items out of reach but in sight of students.

This system will help motivated students to learn how to properly request items!

Below the wall cubby will be a communication board to help teach students the steps needed to request desired items. In education we see undesired behaviors reduced as students learn how to communicate.
