My Students

Our school is a Title I school with over 80 percent of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. Our students walk to and from school, and many are from single parent/grandparent homes. Many have not had the opportunity to explore the world outside their zip code.

I am passionate about giving my students opportunities to experience the world outside the classroom, as well as supporting them academically, socially & emotionally.

Each year, our students participate in a year-long service-learning project led by the Pride Leadership Team which I and two other teachers oversee. These projects have included raising money to support scholarships for high school girls in Tanzania, sending flip flops and sunglasses to children in South America, and purchasing filled duffel bags for children going into foster care in our own community, to name a few. Our students’ hearts are big but so are their needs!

My Project

I feel strongly that students need to learn at an early age the skills to be innovative, entrepreneurial, computational thinkers, using their talents for the social good.

My students lack role models in these areas and will benefit greatly as they develop these skills.

Before I can teach them, I need to develop my own skills in the area of coding, programming, and making. This conference will not only provide me with these skills, but with a network of people I can continue to connect with after the conference ends.
