Making Cents Out Of Books

Help me give my students a variety of picture books and STEM materials to use in the classroom.

My Students

My students are excited to come to school each day and to learn from one another. They enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing their knowledge with each other. They enjoy using their critical thinking skills to evaluate new information while integrating the arts to show their learning. They get very excited any time we can use technology in the classroom and they aren't afraid to try something new.

Jane Goodall once said, "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.

What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make." With this quote in mind, I want to help my students become aware of the impact they are having on the world around them.

My Project

I am requesting picture books about kindness to promote a strong classroom community. Books like Grump Monkey and Say Something help kids recognize and express their feelings. To build on the theme of community, we will use the straws and connectors to promote teamwork and unity. The books The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle and What if Everybody Did That will be used to promote social awareness and financial literacy skills. After reading these books, we will begin a class challenge where students will bring recyclables from home. It is important for kids to learn how to take care of our word while learning financial literacy skills. This project will allow them to do both. We will count our bottles and cans to determine their recycling value and strengthen their financial literacy skills. I am also requesting books books like Dear Deer and Punctuation Takes a Vacation. We will read these before creating recycling posters to put around the school to remind kids how important it is to pay attention to grammar when they write.

Through this project, my students will strengthen their community and make a difference in the world around them.
